HOMILY FOR SATURDAY THE TWENTY-FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

The Soil of the Heart

1 Timothy 6:13-16 /Ps 99:1-5/ LUKE 8:4-15

The Parable of the Sower is really about the soil of the heart. The seed (the Word of God) is perfect, but the soil (the heart) determines its growth. Some hearts are hard, some shallow, some choked by distractions. Only a good heart receives, nurtures, and produces a harvest.

A good heart must be ploughed by humility, weeded by repentance, watered by prayer, and manured by sacrifice. This is how St. Andrew Kim Taegon, St. Paul Chong Hasang, and their Companions bore fruit. Under persecution and death, their hearts stayed fertile, rooted in the Word and unshaken by fear.

Prepare your heart daily so that when the Word falls, it will produce a harvest that lasts into eternity.

Prayer:
Father, plough our hearts with humility, weed out sin, water us with Your Spirit, and make us courageous like Your martyrs. Amen.
