HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE 27TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR II)

From Praise to Action

Joel 4:12–21; Psalm 105; Luke 11:27–28

When a woman cried out, “Blessed is the womb that bore you!” she expressed admiration for Jesus’ divine wisdom. Yet Jesus redirected her words, saying, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it.” True blessedness lies not in emotional excitement but in obedient discipleship.

Theologically, Jesus teaches that relationship with God is founded on obedience, not sentiment or bloodline. Mary’s greatness was not only in bearing Jesus but in hearing and keeping God’s word. Every believer who listens and obeys becomes part of God’s family (Luke 8:21).

Faith, therefore, must move from praise to practice. Worship that does not transform life is incomplete. Let our songs become service, our words become works, and our devotion become daily obedience.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, make us true hearers and doers of your Word. Turn our praise into obedience and our worship into witness. Amen.
