Zechariah’s Song
2 Samuel 7:1–5, 8–12, 14, 16; Psalm 88; Luke 1:67–79
Today the Church invites us to listen to Zechariah’s song (the Benedictus). Once silenced by doubt, Zechariah now erupts in praise, reminding us that when God fulfills His promise, worship must follow. His song proclaims that salvation is no longer distant: light is breaking into darkness, and God is visiting His people. What God promised to David, He brings to fulfillment; and that promise remains alive for us today.
The Benedictus teaches us that praise is not decoration; it is spiritual power. Through song, faith is strengthened, hope is renewed, and the weary heart finds healing. As Scripture urges us to sing with gratitude (cf. Col 3:16), we learn that thanksgiving before God silences anxiety and pushes back despair. When believers sing with faith, the Gospel is proclaimed, the community is united, and hearts are lifted toward heaven.
Prayer
Come, Lord Jesus, and do not delay. Turn our silence into praise and our darkness into light. May those who trust in your mercy find hope, healing, and joy, now and forever. Amen.
