The Wise Builder
2 Kings 24:8-17; Psalm 79; Matthew 7:21-29
One of the greatest illusions in life is to think that we can abandon God and still enjoy His protection. King Jehoiachin and the people of Judah learned this lesson the hard way. Having turned away from God, they fell into the hands of the Babylonians and lost the security they once enjoyed. When we disconnect from God, we expose ourselves to spiritual collapse. The moment we stop trusting God, fear sets in, doubt and drought takes the stage.
In the Gospel, Jesus pushes the lesson even further. He says that not everyone who cries, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The real question is not whether we can cry or shout “my Father my Father” but whether we live by God’s word. Many shout “fire, fire” but will not burn for God. We listen to sermons; appraise them, put up many spiritual activities, but ready to live by the expected transformation.
Those who charge their lives are like the wise builder who constructs his house on rock. Storms are inevitable. Temptations will come. Yet he remains steadfast. A life built on emphemerals, or human approval will eventually crack. But a life built on God’s Word will stand when everything else shakes.
Wise Builder, stay wise, stay built!
Prayer
Father, amid the trials and uncertainties of our time, keep us firmly rooted in Your Word. Strengthen our faith and help us to build our lives on the solid rock of Christ. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
