WITHOUT GOD, WE FALL
2 Kings 25:1-12; Psalm 136; Matthew 8:1-4
The destruction of Jerusalem was not merely a military defeat; it was a spiritual collapse. The magnificent Temple of Solomon was reduced to rubble, and the people were led into exile. Before Babylon conquered Jerusalem, sin had already conquered the hearts of its people. They abandoned God, and in doing so, they lost the very source of their strength. As Jesus says in John 15:5, “Apart from me you can do nothing.” No one walks away from God and remains spiritually strong.
Saul lost a kingdom, Samson lost his strength, Solomon lost his devotion, and Judas lost his soul. Different stories, one lesson: no one abandons God and remains standing. Watch, less you fall. Watch again and realign your steps.
The Gospel presents a striking contrast. While Judah turned away from God, the leper ran toward Him. He was helpless and rejected yet he knelt before Jesus and prayed, “Lord, if You will, You can make me clean.” Jesus responded immediately: “I will; be made clean.” Faith opened the door to the miracle. See, the moment we disconnect from Christ, we begin to crumble from within. Run to Him, not from Him. Have you not come to realize that the God we refuse is the God we eventually need. What are you waiting for? Stand up, hold on to your God!
Prayer
Lord Jesus, never allow us to drift away from You. Strengthen our faith, deepen our trust, and keep us close to You, for apart from You we can do nothing. Stretch out Your hand and make us whole. Amen.
