HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE ELEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

The Lord’s Prayer

2 CORINTHIANS 11:1-11 | PSALM 111 | MATTHEW 6:7-15

Prayer is not just what we do, it’s who we are. And today, Jesus doesn’t just give us a prayer, He gives us the blueprint: The Lord’s Prayer. Short in words, but deep in mystery. It’s not a recital; it’s a revolution. It shakes the heavens, reorders the earth, and reclaims the heart.

This is not just any prayer it is the gold standard of prayer. The Church boldly proclaims it as the most perfect of prayers, because every word in it is weighty with divine intention. It doesn’t just ask, it aligns our will with the Father’s, our needs with His providence, our sins with His mercy, and our enemies with His forgiveness.

When you say “Forgive us our trespasses,” you are entering a covenant! The Lord’s Prayer ties your forgiveness to your ability to release others. Your unanswered prayers could be chained to your unforgiveness? Don’t just have caring words, have a forgiving heart.

Like Paul rebuking the Corinthians in the first reading, the Church warns us: Beware of false gospels — the ones that stroke your ego, excuse your bitterness, and cheapen grace. Truth without love is brutal, but love without truth is a lie. And the truth today is clear: you can’t truly pray if you are unwilling to forgive.

So, pray but not with empty words. Pray but not with a bitter heart. Pray like eternity is watching, because it is. Pray like Jesus taught you, because He did. Stop all the aberrations, pray like Jesus taught you.

LET US PRAY

Father, help us to pray not just with lips, but with life. May our prayers rise, and our hearts free. May we stop reciting and start transforming. Amen
