HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE FOURTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME 1

Anointing Is Not for Sale

GENESIS 44:18-21, 23-29, 45:1-5; PSALM 105; MATTHEW 10:7-15

Jesus charged the Twelve and us “You received without charge; give without charge.” (Matt. 10:8). Spiritual gifts are not earned; they are entrusted by grace. So why price what heaven gave for free? Ministry is a calling, not a commodity.

Joseph didn’t charge his brothers for mercy, he embraced them. But today, consultation fees and spiritual pricing are turning altars into ATMs. That’s not ministry; that’s marketing. Beloved, when grace is taxed, the gospel is twisted. Let’s serve like Jesus; freely, purely, and generously. Grace over greed!

Simon the magician tried to buy the Spirit and was rebuked: “May your money perish with you!” (Acts 8:20). Power can’t be purchased—it flows from the presence of God, not from a purse. Let’s return to true discipleship where anointing is not for sale and healing is not a hustle. Spiritual power is free, don’t pay for it, don’t charge for it.

Prayer:

Lord, help us to serve Your people with pure hearts. Keep us from greed and teach us to give as freely as we have received. Amen.
