Elijah on Mount Carmel
1 Kings 18:41–46; Ps. 65; Matt. 5:20–26
At the end of the drought, Elijah instructed Ahab to “go up, eat, and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” While he himself climbed to the top of Mount Carmel. Beloved, faith is that inner listening. Don’t despise what you sense in your spirit just because your eyes see nothing yet.
Elijah sends his servant 6 times. Six times: “Nothing, my lord.” Most of us would have stopped at 3. But Elijah says, “Go again.” And on the 7th time, a cloud appears. Small, like a man’s hand. God loves to start small so we learn to trust big. If you have been praying for your family, your job, your healing, go one more time. The answer may be on the next prayer.
When the rain came, the Spirit of the Lord came on Elijah too. He girded his robe and outran Ahab’s chariot 20 miles. when you wait on the Lord, your miracle comes with momentum.
So church, what is your “Carmel” today? Which part of this season are you in right now, are you listening, waiting, or running? Wait, listen before you run.
True Christians walk according to the promptings of the Spirit. In addition, Jesus says that unless our righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, we shall not enter the kingdom of God. True Christians must live above pharisaic attitudes. We must cultivate the attitude of waiting.
Prayer
May the Lord who answered Elijah by fire, answer you by rain. Amen.
